John Martin helped lead the Stateliners past Easton.

Phillipsburg senior John Martin piled up three individual wins and was part of a relay victory in the Stateliners boys track and field team's 87-53 home win over Easton on Friday.

The strong performance resulted in the meet MVP award for Martin. An honor that the senior unquestionably deserved, according to his coach Brett Hyland.

"John's been in the program for four years and there's nobody that works harder than him. So he deserves it, but he's earned it. It's all about him and he earned this," Hyland said.

Martin won the 200 meters in 23.30, the 400 hurdles in 56.68 and the 110 hurdles in 14.40. He also led off Phillipsburg's winning 1,600 relay team, which also featured Damian Greene, Matt Koeller and Woody Crosby.

"I do fairly well, but I've never gone 3-for-3 or 4-for-4 or anything like that," said Martin, who won all four of his events on Friday.

Getting his fourth win against the Red Rovers in as many years was certainly special for Martin.

"There's not really a much better feeling than that. It feels fantastic," Martin said.

Next season, the Stateliner senior will run at Division-III State University of New York at Cortland.

"I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it," Martin said. "It's close. They have anything I could want to study and I'll be running there. They have a really great program up there."
