Students are scheduled to start classes at the new Phillipsburg High School in one month, and officials say the building will be ready.
"We are on schedule and we are looking to open on time," New Jersey Schools Development Authority spokeswoman Kristen MacLean said late last month.
She said it was "crunch time" for final preparations in the 326,000-square-foot building, which at the time included finalizing a certificate of occupancy and installing furnishings.
The first day of classes is Sept. 8, according to the district's calendar. New teachers report in the district at the end of August, and teacher in-service days are scheduled Sept. 1 and 2.
Construction on the $127.5 million facility in Lopatcong Township has been in the works for decades. Then-Gov. Jon Corzine attended a groundbreaking in 2009, and current Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno was among the dignitaries who signed one of the school's steel beams in 2015.
The school district has posted progress reports, including photos and aerial videos, on its website.
Phillipsburg Mayor Stephen Ellis recently said the town has been working closely with the district, particularly with the installation of a traffic light at the school's entrance off Belvidere Road.
"From what I've seen ... things are on schedule," he said.
