Lehigh Valley commuters won't be surprised to find Interstate 78 on the list.

Some of the highways that made the list of deadliest roads in the state for 2015 weren't as deadly as they were in 2014.

A total of 562 people died in 523 traffic crashes in the state in 2015, according to State Police statistics.

There was some good news, however, about some of the busiest highways, such as the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. Both toll roads saw a decrease in fatalities between 2014 and 2015, although the death toll still was measured in double digits. However, the Turnpike and Parkway remained among in the top five deadliest last year, which is how they were ranked in 2014.

Other highways saw increases in the death toll last year, such as Routes 30, 130, 33, 18, 55, 3, and I-287.

Safety officials said that the death toll increased for the second year in a row in 2015, which is blamed on higher employment and traffic volume and driver behavior.

Some busy highways that were on the 2014 list, such as Route 1, 35, 47 and I-295, had fewer fatalities than in 2014 and didn't make the 2015 list.

As of Tuesday, 430 had died in crashes in 2016, is a 7.8 percent increase from 2015, State Police said.
