Fabiola Bittar de Kroon was on the train platform at the Hoboken station when she was struck by flying debris
HOBOKEN - The woman killed when a New Jersey Transit train slammed into a station Thursday morning has been identified as a 34-year-old Hoboken resident, according to the state medical examiner's office.
Fabiola Bittar de Kroon was on the train platform at the Hoboken station at 8:45 a.m. and was struck by flying debris as the train barrelled into the station, authorities have said. The crash caused major structural damage to the station.
More than 100 people were injured, including the train's engineer. Gov. Chris Christie said during an afternoon press conference that most of those injured were on the train.
The engineer was identified by ABC as 48-year-old Thomas Gallagher. He was released from the hospital this afternoon, Christie told CNN.
Bittar de Kroon had until recently been a lawyer for the software company SAP, according to her LinkedIn profile. NBC news reported that she had a child in daycare when the crash occurred.
"SAP is profoundly saddened and shaken by the news of today's train crash in New Jersey," SAP spokesman Atle Erlingsson said. "We can confirm Fabiola Bittar De Kroon was an SAP employee with our legal department in Brazil but left our company earlier this year. We express our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all those impacted by today's tragic event."
Her work history and Facebook profile indicate that Bittar de Kroon is originally from Brazil.
