Speed limits have been reduced on major thoroughfares.
The snow is changing over to sleet and freezing rain, and, as expected, is slowing travel around the Lehigh Valley.
The National Weather Service says between 1 and 3 inches of snow was expected for the area. A tenth to quarter-inch of ice is also possible, creating "treacherous driving conditions."
PennDOT on Saturday morning announced temporary speed limit reductions on the region's main thoroughfares. That means 45 mph on Interstates 78, 80, 81, 176 and 380; and on Routes 22, 209, 222, 422, 33 and 309.
Motorists are urged not to drive anywhere, but warned that if they do, PennDOT is keeping roads passable but not necessarily completely clear.
