Phillipsburg wrestling team beats Warren Hills

Phillipsburg senior Robert Melise earned his 100th career win as the Stateliners posted a 37-24 home victory over Warren Hills on Wednesday night.

Turning points: After Nicholas Galko of Warren Hills got a decision at 182 to cut the Stateliners' lead to 16-15, Phillipsburg had two pins in a combined 50 seconds to go up 28-15. Drew Horun earned a fall in 21 seconds at 195 pounds, followed by a pin by Melise in 29 seconds at 220.

After Taylin Zafis picked up a pin in 5:47 at 285 for Warren Hills, Cullen Day of Phillipsburg won by technical fall at 106 and Travis Jones earned a major decision at 113 to make it 37-21 and seal the victory.

Top performers: Melise earned a milestone win in quick fashion for the Stateliners. Horun had another key pin for the home team. Brian Meyer had a pin in 3:16 at 152 for Phillipsburg. Cullen Day had a 17-1 technical fall at 106 and Cody Harrison earned a 10-0 major decision at 126 against his former team to open the match.

What it means: The Stateliners improved to 6-1 and host Hanover Park on Thursday night. The Blue Streaks fell to 4-7 on the season and travel to Voorhees next Wednesday night.
