Students and faculty in Phillipsburg are mourning the death of a well-liked guidance counselor.
Al Augelli, 61, had worked at the high school 19 years, Superintendent George Chando said Thursday morning.
Augelli, whom Chando said lived in the Lehigh Valley, was the freshman class counselor, according to the district website.
"When I think of Al, I think of somebody that was a dedicated and loyal member of our faculty," the superintendent said, adding that the counselor was highly regarded by students and colleagues.
Chando said Augelli had been out for the last week following an undisclosed medical incident.
The district has made staff available to help students and faculty deal with the loss.
"It's a very sad day in Phillipsburg High School," Chando said.
