Five area wrestlers survived two rounds of championship wrestling and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA wrestling tournament Friday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Phillipsburg’s Cody Harrison (126 pounds), Brian Meyer (145) and Robert Melise (220) will be joined by Delaware Valley’s Matt Kolonia (138) and Kyle Lightner (195) when the quarterfinals get underway at noon Saturday.
The quarterfinals will be preceded by three rounds of consolations starting at 9 a.m. Semifinals, and more wrestlebacks, will get underway at 6 p.m. 16 area wrestlers are in the wrestlebacks.
This season, the NJSIAA added fourth-place regional finishers as state qualifiers. Of the 112 new qualifiers, four reached the quarterfinals.
