UPDATE: 1 dead as I-78 wreck in N.J. creates traffic nightmare

Emergency crews responded at 10:48 a.m. to a rollover crash on Interstate 78 East in Greenwich Township.

The wreck was at mile marker 4 near Exit 4 and there were injuries, according to the Warren County Department of Public Safety. A fatality was reported but couldn't immediately be confirmed, New Jersey State Police said. A medical helicopter took off just before noon.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation confirmed the rollover and said one or two lanes were shut. Traffic was getting by in the far right lanes just past the entrance from Route 22. State police warned of delays and suggested motorists seek alternative routes.

Just before noon, all lanes were closed, the DOT said. The backup was nearing the bridge to Pennsylvania and Route 22 was showing heavy traffic as well, according to the DOT's highway page.

Dispatches said a pickup truck and a dump truck crashed, with the pickup rolling.

State police said three trucks were involved and one of them was a pickup. A car with front-end damage was stopped on the highway and the trucks were near each other in the median.
