Casey Giles, 37, of Bridgewater, was arrested and charged after allegedly sending children's drawings laced with Suboxone to Michael Gil, 38, of Oxford, an inmate at the Somerset County Jail.
SOMERVILLE - A Bridgewater woman has been charged for allegedly using children's drawings to smuggle drugs to her incarcerated boyfriend, Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano announced Thursday.
Michael Gill, 38, of Oxford, an inmate at the Somerset County Jail, faces additional charges along with his girlfriend, Casey Giles, 37, of Bridgewater, for attempting to smuggle drugs into the jail through the mail system, according to a news release.
"Our detective unit, in collaboration with our Corrections Division, continuously investigates, charges and prosecutes any and all crimes associated with the smuggling of narcotics into the Somerset County correctional facility," Provenzano said. "Our goal is to make sure we keep a safe and secure environment for all."
During a June 15 inspection of mail addressed to Gill, administrative personnel reportedly noticed something odd hidden in children's drawings. Somerset County Sheriff K-9 Apex was brought in and indicated the presence of narcotics, according to the news release. It was determined the drawings were used to conceal suspected Suboxone.
On June 20 and 28, another two letters to Gill containing children's drawings were inspected and allegedly contained with suspected Suboxone.
Gill was charged with third-degree attempting to possess a controlled dangerous substance following an investigation by the Somerset County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau. Bail was set at $10,000 cash or bond.
Giles was charged with third-degree possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. Bail was set at $20,000 cash or bond.
