The Vikings edged Montgomery in the meet at Phillipsburg. The Stateliners finished third.
Voorhees nipped Montgomery to win the initial Skyland Conference Raritan Division championship race at the Phillipsburg Athletic Complex Wednesday.
The meet brought all five Raritan Division teams together in one race that scored as separate dual meets. The idea is to limit the number of dual meets and settle the division championship in one day.
The Vikings, led by juniors Chris Romero (second in 16 minutes, 38 seconds) and Joey Capone (third in 16:40) and senior Evan Minor (fourth in 16:40), went 4-0 on the day. Voorhees edged Montgomery 28-30, while topping Phillipsburg 15-44, Franklin 20-43 and Watchung Hills 19-42.
Phillipsburg went 2-2 and finished third. The Stateliners lost to Montgomery 15-50 but topped Franklin 20-43 and Watchung Hills 25-36. Senior Quincy Herdlein was the top P'burg finisher in 17th in 17:52.
