An Easton man and an Allentown woman face drug charges after a traffic stop Monday night in Phillipsburg, police said.

Gabriel A. Sanchez, 25, of the 900 block of West Wilkes-Barre Street, was driving west at 10:57 p.m. on Route 22 when he failed to stay in his lane and didn't signal before a lane change, Lopatcong Township police said in a news release.

After the traffic stop, the officer could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle and a search turned up 54 grams of the drug separated and labeled in plastic bags, police said. Also found were a digital scale, several empty plastic bags and eight Xanax pills not in a prescription bottle, police said.

Front-seat passenger Alexandria Piro, 19, of the 1300 block of Chew Street, had five grams of marijuana in her purse, police said.

Sanchez was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of a dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. He was also cited with three vehicular violations and possession of a controlled substance in a vehicle, police said.

Piro was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, police said.

They were both released pending court dates, police said.
