Someone really liked Jules Verne's "Dropped From the Clouds."
The Phillipsburg Free Public Library caps its fees for overdue books, which is good news for whomever checked out Jules Verne's "Dropped From the Clouds."
The story was left in the library's book drop Thursday -- a little more than 50 years late.
The last due date stamped in the book says it was supposed to be returned Jan. 5, 1967.
"It looks like someone loved it for a long time," library director Deb Messling said Saturday. "Hopefully it did some good out in the world."
Unfortunately, the book's condition is too poor for it to go back on the shelf, Messling said. The staff doesn't know who returned it, and records don't go back far enough to see who originally checked it out.
The Phillipsburg library charges a late fee of 10 cents a day, which in this case would come out to a little more than $1,800.
Fortunately for the patron in this case, the library caps its charge at $3.
